Owen Thomas is a British sculptor, artist and designer, studied furniture design at the Guildhall University in London during the late 80's at a time of hectic creativity, ‘boom & bust’, yuppies & armchairs made from car interiors... influenced by luminaries such as Ron Arad, Tom Dixon & Phillipe Starck - Owen’s design style is an industrial translation of arts & crafts, a mix of hi-tech manufacture & Victorian attention to detail or even as commented - ‘Jules Verne by Wallace & Grommit’!
Nowadays his focus is on unique made to measure furniture and solid fuel heating devices designed for rustic, industrial chic and contemporary interiors and are used brilliantly as bold and eclectic statements. Centre pieces highlighting even traditional interiors. The design process is entirely bespoke and based on over 25 years experience in bespoke and low volume production & design techniques. Each new product rapidly developed using latest 3D CAD/CAM technology, hand assembled and then tested to comply with the regulations of its place of installation. Manufacture & testing is in a farm workshop - an old coaching stable on the route between Exeter & London. Built for a sustainable future and lasting a lifetime these creations are capable of heating from tiny domestic to huge spaces far more economically with a tiny carbon footprint compared to conventional central heating.
Owen has worked with the V&A, The Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, English Heritage, Arts Council England and many more world class institutions creating sculptural and other installations. He is available for private commission.
